
In cooperation with Artvin Çoruh University Faculty of Forestry and Artvin Regional Directorate of Forestry, "Intervention to Forest and Rural Area Fires - Volunteer Training" was held at the Faculty of Forestry on Wednesday, November 22nd.
In the training held with the participation of approximately 100 people consisting of students and academicians, Artvin Deputy Regional Director of Forestry Tekin IŞIK stated in his speech that the Faculty of Forestry, which he graduated from in 2002, is a source of pride for him and gave information to the students about where they can benefit while in Artvin.
Kemal ÇETİNER, Forest Fire Fighting Branch Manager of the Regional Directorate of Forestry, informed the participants about fire and combustion information, the beginning and development stages of forest fires, forest fire extinguishing techniques, and the issues to be considered in the fight against forest fires. The importance of raising awareness of the society in the fight against forest fires was emphasized in the training where it was emphasized that the number of volunteers is increasing rapidly. Çetiner shared the information that candidates who are successful in the theoretical training and want to volunteer will be given Volunteer Identity Card and equipment by the General Directorate of Forestry, volunteers will participate in the drills to be held by the General Directorate of Forestry and will be called to duty in case of need in fires.
Faculty of Forestry Vice Dean Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mehmet YAVUZ stated that the most difficult thing during a fire is not only to control the fire, but also to effectively manage the personnel and volunteers in the fire area, and stated that their health, life and property are burdened on the forest management chiefs in the position of fire chief.
The training continued practically in the garden of the Faculty of Forestry. Students learned the materials in the fire bag, how to hold a fire hose and how to control a hose filled with pressurized water.
