Global Climate Change, Drought, and Forest Ecosystems Seminar Held
As part of the spring semester seminars, a seminar titled "Global Climate Change, Drought, and Forest Ecosystems" was held on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, by Research Assistant Burak KILIÇ at the Faculty of Forestry, Conference Hall A-22.
The event was organized to raise awareness within the framework of the Water Efficiency Strategy and Action Plan (2023-2033) in line with adapting to the changing climate. The seminar addressed the impacts of climate change on water resources and ecosystems.
During the seminar, topics such as the increase in greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, global temperature changes, types of droughts, and the risk of forest fires spreading were discussed. Additionally, information was shared about the degradation of marine ecosystems, the accelerating albedo-feedback mechanism due to the melting of glaciers, and the sustainable use of water resources.
The seminar also compared climate change to past natural processes and emphasized the threats of rapid warming on biodiversity. The goals of the Paris Agreement to limit global temperature rise, efficient water use, and the role of forest ecosystems in combating climate change were also shared with the participants.
