3rd-Year Forest Engineering Students Conduct Technical Field Trip to Oltu Forest Enterprise Directorate

On May 16, 2025, a technical field trip was organized to the Oltu Forest Enterprise Directorate as part of the Soil Conservation course for 3rd-year students of the Forest Engineering Department.

During the trip, course instructor Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Tüfekçioğlu made several stops along the Çoruh River to provide on-site explanations regarding the ecological structure and water potential of the basin. Key topics included erosion in the watershed and the impacts of major dams such as Deriner and Yusufeli. The ecological significance of the Tortum Lake and the associated wetlands at its headwaters was also discussed in detail.

The ecological and economic impacts of the dams and lakes along the Çoruh River were evaluated, and the importance of erosion control structures within the watershed for the sustainable use of soil and water resources was emphasized. In this context, a model site located within the boundaries of the Oltu Forest Enterprise Directorate—home to erosion and flood control facilities—was visited, and students received detailed information from field experts.

We extend our sincere thanks to the Erzurum Regional Directorate of Forestry for supporting the technical trip, as well as to Mr. Atakan Akalan, Director of the Oltu Forest Enterprise, Mr. Ünsal Altun, Chief Engineer of Planning and Projects, and Mr. Murat Cinisli, Acting Chief Engineer of Planning and Projects, for their valuable contributions and presence during the field visit.
