Seminar on Combating Addiction: What We Are Unaware Of Held

An important seminar was organized at the Faculty of Forestry of Artvin Çoruh University to raise awareness about combating addiction. The seminar, titled "Combating Addiction: What We Are Unaware Of," was held on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, in the A-22 Conference Hall of the Faculty of Forestry. Approximately 120 people, including academics and students, attended the seminar.

The seminar was conducted by police officers Mevlüt Karaca and Yasin Demir from the Artvin Provincial Police Department. During the seminar, the effects of addiction on individuals and society, methods used in combating addiction, and unnoticed risks were discussed. Participants were informed that addiction is not limited to substance use; it can also develop in different areas such as technology, social media, and gambling. Additionally, the physical, psychological, and social aspects of addiction were examined in detail.

The speakers emphasized that addiction is not just an individual issue but also a social problem, highlighting the need for awareness among families, educators, and security forces. They provided information on the increasing types of addiction among young people and stressed the importance of early diagnosis and intervention.

Throughout the seminar, participants had the opportunity to ask questions about addiction and receive detailed information from experts. Practical suggestions were shared on what measures could be taken in the fight against addiction and how individuals could protect themselves. The police officers stated that raising conscious individuals about addiction is crucial for the overall health of society and that everyone should fulfill their responsibilities in this regard.

At the end of the event, the police officers who conducted the seminar, Mevlüt Karaca and Yasin Demir, were thanked for their contributions, and it was emphasized that awareness efforts in combating addiction would continue. Participants found the seminar highly informative and expressed that such events should be organized more frequently. Students voiced their requests for more workshops and informational activities on combating addiction.

This seminar, which was a significant step in increasing individual and social awareness in the fight against addiction, was followed with great interest by the participants.
